Host a Facebook Party!

Do you need a fabulous catchy theme for your next party? Facebook makes a great theme for adult parties that need something out of the ordinary. This article will give you tips and ideas for hosting your own Facebook party.

Design an image on a photo editing program that uses the color blue, the big white F, and perhaps a face. You'll need a catchy tag line to get people's attention. Send it as a PM through Facebook of course!

If you are inviting friends who are not currently on Facebook, pop a printed out version in the mail. Of course, they will have no idea about the lingo or the Facebook language, so maybe send a little sheet giving them a quick lesson in social media lingo and etiquette.

Use blue and white
Whether you pick out streamers, balloons, flowers, paper goods, etc. go with blue and white. The colors are beautiful together and have a calming feel. If you want to add a festive touch, cut out a bunch of the "like" symbols and tack them onto candles or along the tablecloth.

Dress the part
Aside from wearing a blue tee-shirt, you can paint your face blue and write book in white letters on top of your face. Get it? FACEBOOK? Yes, it is clever!

Tablecloth
You can drape with a blue fabric and put newspaper on top to represent the newsfeed.

Those damn apps!
Farmville, Castleville, the Sims, Bejeweled, Words, the apps are everywhere. If you have the time, print out the characters from these popular games and hang them up around the house. This especially is fun if you know some of your friends are Facebook gaming addicts!

Notifications
When you are on Facebook, the little red notification at the top of the screen can make or break your day. If you have a lot, you think, "Wow- I have a lot of friends who want my attention!" If you only have a few, well then- not so much!

Get a small bowl or basket and cut out a bunch of red notification numbers. When each guest arrives, they are given one notification to use during the night. Once everyone arrives, explain the point of the notification button. At some point in the night, you hold up your notification (like an auction card). The party stops momentarily, and you must pick someone out in the crowd and ask them a question about someone else in the room. It doesn't matter what: embarrassing, easy, fun, whatever. If the person answers it correctly, they get to keep the notification card. Otherwise, it goes back into the basket.

At the end of the night, whoever has the most notification cards wins a door prize.

Newsfeed
When you log onto Facebook, you automatically see your newsfeed right? Create a giant poster and label it the newsfeed. Write a couple of funny status updates, photos, etc. about your party guests without naming them. When your friends arrive, you hand them a sharpie and have them write down next to the status update the person who they think would be mostly likely to post it? You could even pull actual updates from your recent newsfeed to see how quick your friends can identify the Facebook "voice" of the people at the party.

Tag! You're it!
One of the most fun (and maddening) parts about Facebook is the ability for people to "tag" a person in a photo. This game is easy. Have a bunch of post-its available for each guest. Throughout the night, people can tag one another by placing a post-it on their back (without them knowing). The person has to write something about themselves like, "I had braces in 7th grade."

Once it is time for dinner, each guest pulls the tags off of his or her back. He or she then has to identify who tagged them. They score a point for every one they guess right. Winner gets a Facebook fan page! (Well, actually you can just hand them a little orange flag:)

Apps
If you want some activities, set up a scrabble board and put a sign that says, "Scrabble App." You can turn any app into a fun party game. It just depends on how festive your guests are feeling.

It may be impossible to carry the Facebook theme into all your food, but that is fine. Just pick a couple of blue or white foods to splash up the menu. The point is to have the people be the focus, not the food.

• Mashed potatoes
• Hard boiled eggs

• Coconut
• Rice
• Bread

Facebook is epic. People love it, people hate it. People do ridiculous things with it. Make the party about the company you keep, making real connections with friends that aren't relegated to the "like" button. With a bit of creativity, you'll create a dinner party that will be remembered for years to come.

Of course, when the night is over, you'll have lots of photos to paste on Facebook!
